Rockin’ in a relatively different direction is tonight’s Ballroom bill, featuring Austin bands Wine and Revolution, International Waters, and Cleveland’s own Afternoon Naps. These three take their from eras other than the days of big cars, bad girls, and backseat make-outs (not that those things ever go out of style). Tonight’s Ballroom bands combine a Summer of Love sunshiney pop lightness with wired, new wave rhythms.
Over the last several years of their existence, the Naps have been dilligent about taking their cheery sound to other towns and places ’round the globe. They seemed to have stolen the hearts of certain NYCers, which puts them in enviable spots like performing at this year’s PopFest in that storied city. Here are some pics from their gig (scroll down once you hit the link):
The Naps have also made inroads into the underground pop scene via a friendship with Athens, GA-based Happy Happy Birthday To Me records, who plan to put out the Naps’ next full-length.
For your listening pleasure, The Flat Response offers audio of the Afternoon Naps’ 2008 Athens Popfest set, in streaming and downloadable formats. Here’s “Postcard”, compliments of Sleepwalkingmag.com:
When you’re done with that, check out the Austin Chronicle’s review of Wine And Revolution’s new record; read about their friends, International Waters, on the EastAustinite blog. An interview with Wine and Revolution can be found at The Art of Losing blog.
