Hey, Cleveland: We Got Art A Cookin’

9 07 2009

“Nothing to do in Cleveland?” Don’t drink the haterade, friends.

On July 11th, Low Life Gallery returns to action with “BBQ: Backyard and Beyond”.  This show cooks up an homage, nay, a rumination on this classic summetime activity by artists Hannah Verbeuren, Kerry Lang, and Aaron Gunderson.  The BBQ show starts stoking the coals on Friday, July 10th, from 7 – 11 pm.  For more information, check out http://clevelandartriot.blogspot.com/.

Meanwhile, Arts Collinwood offers a latest addition gallery show opening July 10th.  The reception for this one runs from 6 – 9 pm.  Read more HERE.

Let’s not forget your rock options, either.  This Friday we’ve got the haunting, heavy, and sometimes hellacious blues of Bostonians Tarbox Ramblers.  Here’s a ditty about death:

From the same session, we have these boys exhorting you to “Shake ‘Em On Down”, covered by just about everyone with a slide and a guitar:

Let all this talk of roasting coals and crackling fires also prepare you for the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll BBQ Throwdown, on Sunday July 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. No kiddin’.

Arts Collinwood: Sandcastle Day July 25

9 07 2009

The famed soap opera voiceover declares, “like the sands in the hourglass…these are the Days of Our Lives”.  Today, let’s shift our attention from that translucent archetype (now relegated to the mere boiling of eggs and such). Let’s think of enjoying sands on nearby beaches, and how that might affect YOU.

On Saturday, July 25th, Arts Collinwood hosts Sand Sculpture Day at nearby Villa Angela Beach.  If you’ve ever wanted to build the Neverland of your dreams, well, you might not have MJ’s money, but you get Cleveland sand.  Pros will hold workshops for the ambitious, or you can take it casual and stick around for an evening barbecue.  To find out more about this FREE event, check out the Arts Collinwood website.
