Tonight: Phoebe Cates, Party of Helicopters, and A Wayback Machine

Since it looks like tonight’s Ken Janssen-inspired bash with The Phoebe Cates and Party of Helicopters might jar the memories of Kent ne’er-do-wells and party wolves from the 90s, we’ve retrofitted our Wayback Machine with some juiced Collinwood-quality parts from an East 156th auto joint, and have brought you the following:

Harriet the Spy, 1995

Which in turn brings us to Kent label Donut Friends’ 1996 release of a Bisybackson/Harriet the Spy 7″ (no DIY punk rock joint was complete without flooring made completely of 7″ records–or just their tattered sleeves).  Donut Friends also released a 1998 Six Parts Seven album (before their move to Troubleman Records and eventually, Suicide Squeeze).  Read up on a Six Parts Seven discography on their Myspace account.

One step further, and we find out that Tim Gerak, of Harriet The Spy and Six Parts Seven, works at Mammoth Cave Studios in Akron, Ohio, where according to rumor he was working with a certain Tom DeChristofaro and his own band, the Afternoon Naps, who curiously enough will be playing at the Beachland on Wednesday, June 17th with Austin bands  International Waters, and Wine and Revolution, who you can see here:

Wine and Revolution, “Trees”

Further smallifying the word is the fact that DeChristofaro will also be performing with The Phoebe Cates, alongside long-missing guitarist/aural trickster Matt Cassidy, who led obscuro garage-psych combo New Planet Trampoline, who though deceased, offer these ditties for download:

Blimps and Aeroplanes
Phantom Picture Taker
“Skeleton Key”

Pretty strange, huh? But nowhere as strange as THIS Phoebe Cates:

Phoebe Cates, “How Do I Let You Know?”

Oh, that sparkle.
