For those of you who are attending tonight’s SOLD OUT Hold Steady show–and for those of you who missed out on getting tickets–we offer you the following:

Where the whole Hold Steady story got started: a noisy but tough little band from Minneapolis, by the name of Lifter Puller, who you can see and hear playing some party of half-steppers and rubber-neckers,  in 1998. 1998.

Let this be a lesson to all you rockers out there.  Whatever lesson you’ll take from this, we’re not sure.  But dig this wedding-reception type scene:

Fast-forward ten years, and witness Craig Finn and friends crushing it at the Beachland Ballroom.  Probably sold out. And with people singing along. Cross-reference this with the Lifter Puller video above.  A hell of a lot can happen in ten years, huh?

And if that’s not a barometer of success, you gotta wonder where your life’s path has taken you if you’re playing Rachel Ray’s 2009 South By Southwest party.   Truly.

Hey, at least you’re getting fed, and if you’re the Hold Steady, your beer tab is always covered.
