Newgrass Weekend Deal; artist Tranberg at Arts Collinwood

The Infamous Stringdusters, playing with Trampled By Turtles, Saturday Nov 6

So you like rock n’ roll, but you like the sound of jangling banjos, bouncing guitars, and those, high lonesome harmonies so essential to bluegrass?

Here’s a way you can have your very own roots music mini-festival, right here in Cleveland, complements of The Beachland Ballroom and Tavern.    See four of the best contemporary bluegrass (we’ll call ’em newgrass, just because of the bands’ youth and sense of musical daring) sans all the big-venue concert hassle.

For the price of $30, you can see Railroad Earth and Cornmeal on Friday, November 5th; you’ll also get to see the Infamous Stringdusters and Trampled By Turtles on Saturday, November 6th.  That’s a savings of $15 if you were to buy tickets for each show separately!

The Beachland can also help you make this weekend a memorable one with a special hotel package: for $130, you can stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Cleveland on Friday night.  That price also includes admission to both Friday and Saturday shows.

For more information on either of these sweet Newgrass Deals, call the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern at 216-383-1124.

Dan Tranberg: A JPG of the Artist As A Young Man

Arts Collinwood Gallery is pleased to present artist/writer Dan Tranberg’s first solo exhibition in eight years: NEW WORK on view this Friday, October 22 thru November 19.

This new body of work represents Tranberg’s concentration on the idea of encouraging intimate viewing of abstract forms and spaces as a means of reinvigorating a connection to visual phenomena. Rather than relying on grand gestures, Tranberg creates subtle visual enigmas within small, reductive compositions that often hover between graphical and three-dimensional representations of space.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Chicago, Dan Tranberg is an award-winning artist, writer, and critic currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. He has published over 750 articles on visual art and has exhibited his own work in more than 25 exhibitions. His writing has appeared in national and international publications including Art in America, NY Arts, ArtUS, BOMB, Glass, and Art on Paper, and he has been a frequent contributor to The Plain Dealer since 1999. Since 2000, Tranberg has taught painting and writing at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He was awarded an Ohio Excellence in Journalism award in 2004 and received Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships in 2002 and 2007.

The exhibit opens with a wine and tapas reception at Arts Collinwood, Friday October 22 from 6-9pm. . For more information about Dan Tranberg visit
